Article 187 of the Law of Sharia Procedure: the appeal deadline

Law of Sharia Procedure — Royal Decree No. M/1 dated 22/1/1435H

Text and explanation of Article 187

Article 187 of the Law of Sharia Procedure sets the period for an appeal or review objection at thirty days. Judgments in urgent matters are the exception, where the period is only ten days. The period runs from the date the losing party receives a copy of the judgment deed, as recorded on the deed itself. Holidays occurring during the period count towards it; if the last day falls on an official holiday, the period extends to the next working day. If no objection is filed within this period, the right to appeal or review is lost. The court records this in the case file, and the judgment deed is annotated as final and enforceable.
